Employee accepts new job with 40% pay raise, company rescinds offer when former employer sends non-compete clause with forged signature: 'My former boss destroyed my livelihood'

Losing a good employee is no excuse to sabotage their future. You never know what kind of impact it might have on your former company when you hand in your notice. Many managers dread seeing the back of a decent employee whom they rely on, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they treat them in a way that makes them want to stay, either. At its most chaotic, the departure of an employee can be something that causes a whole team or even an organization to collapse. At the same time, nobody should be guilted into staying in a role that is no longer working for them. It is the nature of the modern job market for workers to change employers and try to get the best deal for them by shopping around. If a boss can't handle the reality of that, they are not prepared for the way the world works in this day and age. People move on.That being said, not every manager is going to let an employee go so easily. The nicest way to do that is with a generous counteroffer, but unfortunately, some don't believe in the kinds of tactics that a worker might actually appreciate.
