Community Guidelines
Rillr is built for finding good stories and having useful conversations about them. These guidelines explain the standards we expect from people who submit stories, comment, vote, and participate in the community.
Discuss ideas, not people.
Disagreement is welcome. Harassment, manipulation, and abuse are not. Good-faith criticism of an argument, article, company, public figure, or institution is part of the conversation; attacking other users is not.
Core principles
Rillr works best when people share useful sources, explain what they think, and leave room for other people to disagree. Participation should improve the conversation rather than merely win it.
- Be constructive. Add information, context, reasoning, or a useful question.
- Be honest. Do not impersonate others or deliberately misrepresent what a source says.
- Be relevant. Keep comments and submissions connected to the story or discussion.
- Be human. Treat other participants as people, even when you strongly disagree.
Discussion standards
Strong opinions are allowed. Personal abuse is not. Critique the claim, evidence, reporting, or behavior under discussion rather than attacking another member of the community.
Do
- Explain why you agree or disagree.
- Correct factual errors with sources when possible.
- Ask clarifying questions before assuming bad intent.
- Use quotations and excerpts only as needed to support the discussion.
Do not
- Harass, threaten, stalk, or repeatedly target another user.
- Use slurs or dehumanizing attacks against people or protected groups.
- Encourage dogpiling, brigading, or coordinated harassment.
- Derail discussions with repetitive insults, bait, or deliberately disruptive behavior.
Story submissions
Submitted stories should help people understand what they are about to read. The title should accurately describe the linked material and should not be rewritten to create a false or substantially misleading impression.
- Prefer the original source when it is reasonably available.
- Do not submit deceptive redirects, malware, phishing pages, or disguised affiliate links.
- Do not repeatedly submit the same story or near-duplicate links.
- Do not present advertising, sponsored material, or your own project as independent reporting.
- If you are directly connected to a submission, be transparent about that relationship when it matters to the discussion.
Rillr may edit categorization, remove duplicate submissions, or remove links that are unsafe, deceptive, unlawful, or clearly unrelated to the community.
Voting and manipulation
Votes are meant to reflect genuine reactions from individual users. Attempts to artificially change rankings or scores undermine the usefulness of the site.
- Do not create or coordinate multiple accounts to influence votes.
- Do not buy, sell, trade, automate, or solicit votes.
- Do not organize off-site campaigns whose primary purpose is to manipulate a Rillr score or discussion.
- Do not use scripts, bots, or other automation to vote or interact with community features unless Rillr expressly permits it.
Safety and prohibited content
Some material is incompatible with a safe and lawful discussion community, even when it is presented as a joke, challenge, or political argument.
- Do not post credible threats of violence or instructions intended to facilitate violence against a person.
- Do not publish another person's private address, phone number, credentials, financial data, or other sensitive personal information without authorization.
- Do not post phishing links, credential-stealing pages, malicious downloads, scams, or other content intended to compromise another person's device or account.
- Do not post sexual exploitation material or any sexual content involving minors.
- Do not use Rillr to facilitate clearly unlawful transactions or activity.
Security reporting, research, journalism, historical discussion, and other legitimate contextual discussion are not prohibited merely because they concern dangerous or sensitive topics.
Spam, promotion, and low-quality participation
Sharing something you made is allowed when it is relevant. Treating Rillr as a distribution channel for repetitive promotion is not.
- Do not mass-post the same site, product, referral link, newsletter, or message.
- Do not use misleading engagement tactics, fake accounts, or undisclosed coordinated promotion.
- Do not flood discussions with repetitive, machine-generated, or substantially identical comments.
- Automated or AI-assisted content must still be relevant, accurate to the best of the poster's knowledge, and meaningfully useful to the discussion.
Moderation and enforcement
Moderation decisions are based on context, severity, frequency, and the history of the account. Rillr may take action when content or behavior violates these guidelines, the Terms of Use, or applicable law.
Actions may include:
- Removing or limiting a comment, story, or submission.
- Pausing content while it is reviewed.
- Issuing a warning or restricting community features.
- Temporarily suspending an account.
- Permanently disabling an account for severe or repeated violations.
We do not guarantee that every violation will receive the same action or that enforcement will occur in a fixed sequence. Serious safety, security, fraud, or abuse issues may result in immediate action.
Reporting problems
Use Rillr's reporting tools when a comment appears to violate these guidelines. Reports should be made in good faith and should not be used simply because you disagree with another person's opinion.
Please avoid engaging in prolonged arguments with abusive users after reporting them. A report gives moderators the context they need to review the issue.
These Community Guidelines supplement the Rillr Terms of Use. They may be updated as the community, product, and moderation tools evolve.
