When President Donald Trump unveiled the government’s new AI chatbot on Tuesday, he couldn’t stop singing its praises. In his speech, Trump said that America.gov is “one of the most revolutionary product launches of all time.” “It’s not just simply a website, it’s a restoration of America’s founding promise, and it’s a reinvention of your government for the 21st century and beyond,” he continued. In fewer words, Trump thinks his administration’s new invention is “damn good.” The new search engine, powered by artificial intelligence (or “super intelligence,” as Trump insists it be rebranded), consolidates information from “official government sources” to answer any and all questions about the United States, including guiding users through confusing government documents and processes. But pulling from official government sources means the bot’s responses are by and large based in fact, not opinion—and they often contradict the rhetoric spouted by President Trump himself.
