New method automatically maps myelin patterns in the brain, revealing signs of injury

Myelin, the insulating sheath around nerve fibers, is essential for fast, healthy signaling in the brain. Its patterns vary widely across brain regions. Researchers at the University of Eastern Finland have developed a computer method that can quantify these patterns automatically, without manually labeling tissue images.
