High-performing employee leaves company, HR manager demands remaining employees provide 'roadmap' on how to be better: 'You guys aren't irreplaceable'

The carrot is always better than the stick.Understanding how to motivate employees to give their best work is a key part of running a company, and it is something that many employers struggle to get right. In this era of quiet quitting and doing just enough to justify the paycheck, inspiring people to go above and beyond can seem like an impossible task.As we know, it is honestly pretty justified to give the bare minimum in many places of work. Most of them will not be shy to leave you behind if you suddenly don't fit into the business plan, no matter how much effort you give. The issue is that a lot of workplaces don't even pretend to want to listen to the interests and anxieties of their employees. If they just focused a little more on improving their day-to-day experience, they may see better results. While fearmongering can be a temporary motivator in desperate circumstances, it should not be the immediate fallback in times of workplace crisis. It makes it all the more likely that employees will start looking elsewhere for a job, and that will leave the company in an even more stressful situation than it was in before.
